Commemorate Louisville World Refugee Week at the Ali Center
June 16 - 21, 2008
In honor of World Refugee Day on Friday, June 20, the Muhammad Ali Center and Catholic Charities have organized a week of events that will include photo exhibitions, a film series, a field trip day for refugees to the Ali Center, and informational displays on refugee services. The week will end with Catholic Charities World Refugee Day Celebration – a festival of food, music and fun for refugees resettled in Louisville.
Monday, June 16 – Press Conference
- Mayor Jerry Abramson presents Proclamation of Louisville World Refugee Day and guest speakers
- 2:30 p.m. at the Muhammad Ali Center
Tuesday, June 17 (through August 15) – UNHCR Photo Exhibitions
- “Utica – The Town That Loves Refugees” and “A New Home, A New Life” (click here for details)
- On loan from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
- On exhibit through August 15, 2008 at the Muhammad Ali Center

Tuesday, June 17 – Film Series: “Sierra Leone’s Refugee All-Stars” (Sierra Leone)

- Displays of information on refugee services, organizations and programs

Saturday, June 21 – Catholic Charities World Refugee Day Celebration “All Over the World”
- Catholic Charities hosts a celebration for all refugees resettled in Louisville (closed for general public)
