Barry Alberts Recently Named Interim President and CEO for the Ali Center

LOUISVILLE, KY (January 11, 2008) … Barry Alberts is the new interim President and Chief Executive Officer for the Muhammad Ali Center while an executive search is being conducted to permanently fill the position left by Mike Fox, who resigned from the position he held for seven years.  Mr. Alberts has a history of working with the Ali Center – he previously served as the Project Director where he oversaw the building and exhibit design program during the conceptual, design development, and construction phases of the Center.  Mr. Alberts also served as the Executive Director of the Downtown Development Corporation (DDC), a civic development organization responsible for the long-term economic health and vitality of downtown Louisville. In addition to his responsibilities regarding public downtown development activities, Mr. Alberts administered the nationally award-winning Downtown Housing Fund and is the principal author of the Louisville Downtown Development Plan. 

From 1988 through 1998, Mr. Alberts served as the Executive Director of the Louisville Development Authority (LDA).  He was responsible for the creation of the LDA, the first entity that integrated the planning, design, and development activities of the City of Louisville.  Among his accomplishments during this period of time was the creation of the West Main Street Cultural Arts District, the expansion of the Commonwealth Convention Center, the development of Louisville Slugger Field, the Hillerich and Bradsby’s Louisville Slugger Museum, and the redesign of downtown’s urban spaces, streets, parks, and plazas. 

Barry Alberts is a native of New York City and a graduate of Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design.  Prior to coming to Louisville, Mr. Alberts was involved in the nationally recognized Urban National Park program in Lowell. Massachusetts, and served as an associate with an architectural and real estate development firm in the Boston area. He is married and has one daughter currently working in London.
