World Renowned Photographer Howard L. Bingham Offers a Personal Look
Into His Professional Career
LOUISVILLE, KY (February 7, 2006) Through the lens of a camera, Howard L. Bingham has captured four decades of significant cultural, political and social change in America. On Sunday, February 19 at 3 p.m., Howard will share his personal stories and experiences in a presentation called Worth a Thousand Words at the Muhammad Ali Center.
Accomplished photographer, long-time friend of Muhammad Ali, and Honorary Curator of Photography at the Ali Center, Howard Bingham will highlight his professional career, his personal relationship with Muhammad Ali, and some profound moments in history he captured on film. The Ali Center’s Howard L. Bingham Gallery currently exhibits some of these photos which include: Protests and Riots (mid-1960s), Dr. Martin Luther King’s funeral (1968), Robert F. Kennedy campaigning in Los Angeles (1968), and more that provide an especially poignant reflection during African-American History Month and throughout the Ali Center’s inaugural year.
Howard L. Bingham is best known for his beautiful and intimate photographs of Muhammad Ali, however, Howard’s passion and life’s work have drawn him to a variety of compelling subjects, moments of social conflict, and significant global events, and even film production. His award-winning work has appeared in Life, Look, Time, Sports Illustrated, People, Ebony, Jet (among others), in numerous books, and has been exhibited at the Smithsonian and other major cultural institutions.
The event will be held from 3 – 4 p.m. in the Auditorium (Level 2) of the Muhammad Ali Center. Admission to the program is FREE, however seating is limited so please make reservations in advance (seating is first come, first serve).
