Champions Aren’t Made In Gyms Program To Be Held for Collegiate Athletes at the Ali Center

Monday, March 10, 2008
3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Collegiate athletes are invited to participate in this unique event that will encourage collegiate  athletes to realize their leadership abilities well beyond their chosen sport.  The program is designed to translate Muhammad Ali’s life and how he was able to transcend the sport of boxing into ways to use their student-athlete role for the betterment of those around them.  Motivational speaker Geoff Thompson will use his unique journey to describe how sport helped him overcome adversity to obtain personal achievement, team success, and results that have led to his pursuit of personal excellence.  The hope is for the young athletes to take away a newfound perspective on their role as an athlete and what it really means to be a champion.  This program series is presented in partnership with Harrah’s Foundation and Caesars Indiana.

Featured Speaker – Geoff Thompson
Geoff Thompson is a five-time World Karate Champion, holder of over 50 national and international titles, and member of the Martial Arts Hall of Fame.  As founder and Executive Chairman of the Youth Charter for Sport, Culture and the Arts, he has spent the past 11 years developing policies and innovative approaches of looking at the role of sport, art and cultural activity and its social impact in addressing anti-social youth culture behavior.  In 1995, Geoff was awarded an MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for his services to sport.
