Muhammad Ali in Singapore
Lending Support to New York for 2012 Olympics Bid
Singapore (July 6, 2005) -- Muhammad Ali is in Singapore today as part of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s team bidding for the honor of becoming the host city of the 2012 Summer Olympics. New York competed against Paris, London, Madrid, and Moscow; London won the bid.
The International Olympic Committee (ICC) voted on Wednesday after hearing presentations from each city. New York’s slogan for the Games was “Let the Dreams Begin”—a sentiment that Muhammad Ali can surely relate to as he prepares for the opening of his own longtime dream in his hometown of Louisville.
Other VIPs representing New York for the bid were: Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Muhammad Ali, Janet Evans, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Ian Thorpe, and Nadia Comaneci.
