Q: How much is a student tour at the Muhammad Ali Center?
A:
Students are admitted at the rate of $4.00 per student and adults are admitted free of charge as a chaperone at the ratio of one adult per ten students.  Additional chaperones are welcome for groups with special needs.

Q:
What does a student tour at the Muhammad Ali Center include?
A:
We have many thematic tours from which to choose.  All of our tours are in line with Kentucky state standards and address core content areas.  Your tour will include a viewing of our multi-media orientation film, “If You Can Dream,” a tour through our 2 ½ levels of award-winning interactive exhibits, and a choice of educational programming.

Q: What does the educational programming include?
A:
The Muhammad Ali Center offers two different kinds of educational programming – Guided and Self-Guided Tours.  A guided tour will include a classroom activity and an educator introduction to the exhibits.  Guided programs are limited to groups of 50 students or less.  For time-crunched teachers or larger groups, we recommend self-guided tours.  A self-guided tour will include an introduction by an Ali Center educator, and his/her presence in the exhibits for larger or special needs groups.  Educational materials and activities for use in the exhibits may be downloaded directly from the Ali Center website.  All Muhammad Ali Center curriculum includes suggested activities for pre- and post visit classroom use.

Q: Is the Ali Center appropriate for my students’ grade level?
A:
We recommend the Muhammad Ali Center for students at the intermediate level (grade 4) and above.  For younger students, we do offer an outreach program free of charge where an Ali Center educator will visit your classroom with a program based on the Ali Center’s mission.  Currently, outreach programming is only available in the Greater Louisville area.  Please contact Fronda Yancy for details at (502) 992-5303.

To ensure the best possible learning experience, if you have students younger than 4th grade and you wish to take them on a field trip to the Muhammad Ali Center, please send a copy of your lesson plan (including your pre- and post visit activities) to the Ali Center education division at least three weeks prior to your visit. Upon receipt of your lesson plans, we will send you a confirmation letter.

Q: What if I have a summer camp program with younger students?
A: The Ali Center understands that summer camp programs include a broad age range of students, so each summer, we offer a special program tailored to the needs of mixed age groups (K-6), in which camps are welcome to participate.  These educational programs are available June 1-August 15 of each year. Please contact the education division for more information at (502) 992-5303.

Q: Does the Muhammad Ali Center have a lunch facility?
A: No.  However, if you wish to bring sack lunches, you may eat outside on the plaza adjacent to the Ali Center or on the Belvedere, which is across 6th Street from the Ali Center.  If you wish to order lunches, Jarfi’s Catering offers a school lunch package (which may be booked through the Ali Center Education Division).  If you plan to eat outside and there is inclement weather we will do our best to provide an alternate plan.

Q: What can I do to prepare students for the visit?
A: We recommend that you prepare your class by reviewing the pre-visit activities that can be found with all of the curriculum on the Ali Center’s website.  In addition, educators are welcome to visit the Ali Center prior to the date of the student tour and meet with an Ali Center educator.  We are happy to walk you through the exhibits and provide a rundown of the agenda for your visit. You may also visit on your own, but we do ask that you contact the education division to make us aware of the time and date of your visit, so we may provide the information to our admissions desk.  In addition, please review all documents you are sent with your confirmation letter and share pertinent information with all chaperones accompanying you on your visit.

Q: I want to spend the whole day in Downtown Louisville.  What other sites are around the Ali Center that my students would enjoy?
A: Downtown Louisville is a great area for visiting cultural attractions.  The Ali Center is part of “Museum Row on Main,” which includes many other museums and attractions within easy walking distance of the Ali Center (so your bus will only have to park once).  You may choose from the Louisville Science Center (includes an IMAX theater), the KentuckyShow! Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory, Frazier International History Museum, among other attractions.  For more information, visit the Museum Row on Main website at www.museumrowonmain.com or the Louisville Convention and Visitors Bureau’s website at www.gotolouisville.com.

Q: Do you provide discounts to Title I schools?
A: No.  However, we currently offer one of the lowest student rates in Louisville and continue to look for ways to subsidize school tours.
