The Council

The Muhammad Ali Center Council of Students (MACCS) is made up of outstanding high school students in the Greater Louisville area with almost an equal male-female split of a diverse mix of ethnicities and religious backgrounds.  Our youth were selected from public, private, and parochial schools in both Kentucky and Indiana for their unique and admirable qualities.

The MACCS have, in the past, offered guidance to the Ali Center in the development of its visitor experience, and they provide input on the Center’s public programming and educational offerings. The MACCS adhere to a motto that Muhammad Ali has often used himself, "Service is the rent we pay for our stay here on earth."  Through this outstanding group of students, our goal is to identify new ways of relaying the Ali Center's mission to the community and beyond – with a special focus on youth.

MACCS Creed

As MACCS, we are a group of young dedicated leaders who care enough about the community to get involved, and make a difference.  We use the six core values of Respect, Confidence, Conviction, Dedication, Spirituality and Giving to aid us in our journey to become the best that we can be.  Through our passionate activism we strive to transform mediocrity into greatness.  In dealing with real life situations we come together as a community for the community.  We do this with persistence, faith and integrity because we understand that WE are the future.

Council Activities

Since inception, the MACCS has been involved in numerous community service projects and special performance events.  Listed below are just a few of the Youth Council's activities:

  • Served as gallery guides for Ali Center special events, including Iraqi Diplomats, the Ali Family, and The Louisville Mock Trial Tournament
  • The Council donated over $1000 worth of equipment to the Home of the Innocents
  • The Council, in partnership with the World Affairs Council and World Learning, sent 3 MACCS and one adult to Serbia to participate in the Serbian Youth Leadership Program.
  • Spread the Center's six core values—Respect, Confidence, Conviction, Dedication, Giving and Spiritually through everyday life experiences.

Whether they are attending meetings or serving the community, the Youth Council has been a very important extension of the Muhammad Ali Center's goals. The Council’s efforts and dedication are outstanding examples of public service and they continue to play an instrumental role in helping to create programs and exhibits that will reach a variety of audiences.
